Beautiful book to screen adaptation with lush sets and a stellar cast. An interesting story within a story with interesting characters, scenes, and costumes. Plenty of cinematic tension makes the happy ending even more satisfying.

Probably one of the only movies to fully and accurately capture the magic that are movies, directed by one of the greatest filmmakers of all time.
The cinematography is gorgeous, especially the scenes in the train station. It almost felt…

Won lots of awards. More of a kids movie. 2 hours way to long. Could not understand Sasha Baron Cohen. Lots of moving gears for a kid to be standing so close.

I don't give 5 stars very often, but I do this one. A brilliant story passionately told and every aspect is spot on, for me this is really great movie. Uplifting but not in a sentimental way.

Delightful celebration of early film-making. The effects are amazing. But it's not for everyone - slow pace and weak plot can turn off people accustomed to more conventional Hollywood films,

This is worth watching just for the sequences of the Georges Méliès' films alone. Any student of cinema history will just love this footage. The movie gets off to a rather slow start, but the ending certainly makes up for that. The sets…

👏 Everything is great about this loving, warm film. Classifying it as Juvenile is a big mistake. You should really see it in 3D, but if you don't have that opportunity, watch it anyway.

This love letter to cinema and more specifically to film pioneer George Mieles is itself a very charming piece of cinema. The visuals are stunning as we follow the life of Hugo who while living as an orphan in a train station and tending…

This was a different kind of film. It was too slow moving for a lot of kids-many times there were several excruciating seconds (altho it seemed like hours) with no dialogue - would not hold all children's interest very long. And yes, it…

Great film for kids about a boy who ends up alone in the Paris train station circa post WWI taking care of the clocks there. This is a story which empowers kids. Hugo watches the world as it passes through the train station but he still…

Amazing film of a little boy who is orphaned and lives in a train station in Paris France. Hugo soon wins the trust of an elderly man who sells items in the station, and as we come to discover, is in fact French film pioneer George Melies.…

This movie had a lot of rave reviews, guess it just wasn't our cup of tea. I found it difficult to stay engaged in the story and it was loooong.

Hugo is what movies are all about, fantasy intertwined with reality (the true story of French cinematographer Georges Melies who pioneered the first "horror films" ), excellent acting by the child stars. Shows Scorsese's life-long love of…
