This is the 5th movie in the suggested X-men chronology .

However , this movie will confuse watchers who will watch the next one since Raven who gets killed in this movie (as suggested in the trailer) is alive in the next film in the series.

Fast paced; kept our attention. It's like a marvel comic book well acted by good looking characters and surroundings.

Eh - I could take it or leave it. I liked James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, though. Otherwise, the fight scenes were just okay. The ending was good, and that's about all I can say about it.

My pthy comment timed out, so I'll summarize this as an unengaging action movie with too much posing and not enough sense to get in out of the rain. It felt like its entire existence was simply to back fill some missing plot in whatever MCU branch was lacking, maybe make some money doing it if enough X-Men fans showed up.

It seemed like they ran out of idea for the story. Not a good plot. Unlikable characters. Raven had left before the story ended. But it’s still not an awful movie.

Heads up ... Young children who are Jennifer Lawrence fans may break out in tears. As the title suggests, a Phoenix story.

Disappointing. Better than the Last Stand, but not by much. Action sequences are good, but Jessica Chastain was wasted as a character in this movie. I like the X-Men franchise and I'm hoping Disney will give it a shot in the arm.

I really like X-men but this one just didn't quite cut it. The performers were just not convincing enough. Really feels like watching a bunch of people putting on costumes. The only good performances were by Sophie Turner. She's one to watch for future movies.

Strays away from source material straight away. The issues of the X-Men that covered the Dark Phoenix sega had a really great story and character development. It may have been more interesting if they followed that somewhat.
Dull film. I kept waiting for it to become interesting and see where it was going with this new take on the story. It never sparked for me at all.
I’m surprised the bigger names, playing some of these character’s roles, went onboard with this project.

Okay - So during this movie I felt what most people have; confused, annoyed, and even more confused. What I've found in my searches is that due to the events in Xmen Apocalypse some timey-whimey (aka someone messed with the time lines) stuff occured. Which means that this Dark Pheonix/Jean(Gene?) as well as EVERYONE ELSE is not the same as those characters from the Xmen movies that started this off back in the early 2000's. I could be wrong..but that was what most sites are saying - honestly just google it if you care enough.

I myself really enjoy these newer Xmen movies, perhaps even more than the the original Hugh Jackman led ones. But I think this one missed the mark in a lot of places - especially since the director/producers are making a movie within a series thats within another series. Where's the pre-movie recap of current events when you need it, eh?

It was pretty decent. It had a lot of action and a huge all-star cast in it. The storyline was good but kind of hard to follow though.

Starts out excellent, up until the point Jean gets the Phoenix power. Then it gets very confusing. I'm sure Sophie Turner is a talented actress, but she has no presence as Dark Phoenix.

Even when doing crazy murderous things, she just doesn't seem scary. I blame the director.

There is something fundamentally wrong with any Dark Phoenix story where the main villain is not Dark Phoenix. I think the saddest part of this movie is that it could've been great and it felt like it really tried, but it's just kind of a mess.
But the effects were decent.

I wholeheartedly agree with danomcd. The movie is disjointed and very choppy at points. The characters are under-developed and the story line not cohesive. It appears that this was remnants of a longer movie. I would have liked to have seen a more methodical adaptation for the marvel genre.

I gave a 3 because although it was a good movie they killed off a main character. Only for her to be brought back to life for X-men, X-2 and X-men United. Were they just not paying attention or simply hoping people don't pay attention?

I have been avoiding watching this because I was really worried that they would mess up another good Marvel storyline. Sadly they did. There is no emotional connection with these actors/characters thus you couldn't care less what happens to them. There is no character development. People jump in and out of scenes with the audience having no clue who they are - just a bunch of nameless backdrop people.

How in the world could such a brilliantly-talented cast produce such a grade D movie? Even the special effects didn't dazzle. Very disappointed!

Great special effects, but it didn't feel like the real X-Men were playing. First of all,
no Wolverine, and most characters were played by cheap imitations. Seems like things are cooling off w/ X-Women.

I am a sucker for superhero origin stories and pretty much enjoyed this film, thanks to some good special effects, set design and the all star cast with young Sophie Jonas reprises her role as Jean Grey (first appeared in the 2016 X-Men: Apocalypse,) James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Jessica Chastain.

I was surprised to see so many bad reviews on this movie. I personally loved that they made a proper Dark Phoenix movie after XMen-The Last Stand bombed so badly. I especially liked how Jean Grey got a chance to redeem herself in this one, and the alien side story was an interesting twist. Was hoping to see Shi'Ar in this but it was still pretty good. I'd give it at least 3 1/2 stars.

I was disappointed in this movie. Had a tough time to keep awake to watch it. Found it overdone and felt the franchise just put the movie out just to squeeze a few more dollars out of the story. What happened? I was actually right into the X-men stories until now.
