The Battle of Marathon in 490 BC was one of history's great turning points. The first time the Greeks managed to defeat the Persians in a pitched battle, it enabled the rise of classical Greek civilization. Christian Cameron's retelling of the battle brings it alive, with all of its human drama and tragedy, as never before.

Maybe I read this one too close to the first in the series, "Killer of Men"...which was fantastic. I found the narrator a little repetitive and the themes kept repeating...I wish I had waited a year to read Marathon I probably would have enjoyed it more.
Read Killer of Men...then wait...:-) IMHO

Very good book as book 2 of a very good series that encompasses Ancient Greece and the nearby world of that time (Persia, etcetera) from pre-Marathon to past the time of the great Persian Invasion.

Excellent read. And has one anticipating the next book of the series.
