Danny Archer is an ex-mercenary turned smuggler. Solomon Vandy is a local Mende fisherman. Amid the explosive civil war overtaking 1999 Sierra Leone, these men join together for two dangerous missions: recovering a rare pink diamond of immense value and rescuing the fisherman's son. Bloody and (literally) gritty. However, it manages to make the stale premise of the crook-turned-Robin-Hood quite credible.

The film feels slow in terms of pacing for a bit of time but after it attains momentum. There is an interesting backdrop, some well staged action sequences, and a good supporting performance from Djimon Hounsou.

With an excellent script and an impressive cast, this film about the dirty business of diamonds is must-see for everyone.

This movie does have it's moments. Djimon Hounsou is truly terrific as he delivers a very powerful and convincing performance. His Oscar nomination was well deserved. DiCaprio is OK, but I didn't really believe him as an ex mercenary and Jennifer Connelly, as gorgeous as she is, didn't have nearly enough to do. I would recommend everyone check this out at least once.

Well made story of the sometimes violent and seedy side of the diamond trade. The human suffering makes one realize that diamonds should not be a girl's best friend, at least diamonds mined by slavery.

Astoundingly violent, but well portrayed story of where the bling on your ears really comes from.

Anybody who wants to buy a Diamond for a loved one, should watch this movie, and think about where it came from.

Very good historical drama.

Very touching! And it makes you more aware of what you buy and where it really comes from.
