"The ants go marching two by two. Hurrah! Hurrah!"

With a teaming horde of about a billion and one pesky, killer ants cast as extras in The Naked Jungle, how could the viewer not be satisfactorily impressed and entertained by this Adventure/Romance/Drama (from 1954) set in South America?

And when you factor into all of the "biting" action that took place in this sweaty, jungle picture, two of Hollywood's hottest actors-of-the-day (Yep. That's the studly Charlton Heston and the gorgeous Eleanor Parker whom I'm talking about here) - How could The Naked Jungle not thrill the viewer to absolute pieces?

Needless to say, more often than not, I was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly entertained by The Naked Jungle. It sure turned out to be more than just a typical "boy meets girl", Hollywood crap movie.

Filmed in the lushest Technicolor imaginable, this 95-minute romp (and stomp) through the vastness of a South American jungle paradise may have had its flaws and it may have been riddled with cliche - But, this more-than-pleased viewer honestly cannot think of any real significant complaints worth beefing about in this review.

Wow! I thought this would be just another cheesy 50's sci-fi flick, but it is SO much more! Themes of colonialism, slavery, and misogyny are over the top - a true sign of the times. I know I'm making it sound horrible, but if you can view it from the angle of it being a cultural artifact, it's completely fascinating. And, yeah, killer ants.
