I have been meaning to watch this movie for a long time and finally did and I would give you the reason why you should watch it too . This have won awards so I won’t bother with the praise. Where Haneke does different is the way it is framed. There is no background sentimental music . It doesn’t explain the relationships . The daughter reaction to everything is natural. The story itself is devastating and not an easy watch. The director archived to make drama with little manipulation. It lets the viewers choose when to cry , it shows empathy and harshness on the same time .

A story of an elderly couple deal with life when the wife suffered a stroke that her body was partially paralyzed and lost of independence. Her husband had to 'take-care' of her.
This is a sad but real movie with superb acting of the two elderly actors.

A commentary on how precious life is. How everything can be seemingly normal, happy one day and completely different the next. A story about intense love that will do anything to honor their mate. The challenges that come with that and the commentary of the outside world on what is appropriate or inappropriate - what should or should not be. Thought provoking. What would you do for the person you love?

This movie is about the suffering that can be introduced by severe, protracted medical and mental problems--suffering of the patient, and the suffering of the loved one who tries to offer loving support.

The acting is superb, the film is high quality, and I recommend it to you though it will leave you saddened. A genre of problem that can hit any of us is portrayed with brilliance, but the solutions remain in the shadows, ellusive even to the kind and well educated family we follow.

I thought this was a moving portrait of an elderly couple- it's serious stuff crafted by one of the great European directors currently working in film.

This is a 2012 French drama written and directed by the Austrian filmmaker Michael Haneke.
The film focuses on an elderly couple, Anne and Georges, who are retired music teachers with a daughter who lives abroad.
Anne suffers a stroke which paralyses her on the right side of her body.
What a depressing and heart-breaking movie it is!
Yes, it is about love.
What Georges did to his deteriorating wife is definitely an act of love, if not an act of God.
Superb are the performances of the elderly actors---Jean-Louis Trintignant and Emmanuelle Riva.
