Oh Brother Where art Thou, the Coen Brothers did a magnificent job with having George Clooney, I have seen this Golden Globe and Academy Award winner several times, the music is great and Charles Durning , the best of his career yet, most of all this movie has a hidden meaning to life itself and each one draws different insights. Enjoy this again and again.

VERY GOOD 2000 Coen Bros. film. I didn't really get drawn in on the Homer Odyssey references, but it was a fun mix of interesting developments as the main characters have whack adventures as they pursue their 'treasure'.
The country music, especially the Soggy Bottom Boys, was an enjoyable part of the film.

Great acting great music great adaptation of Homer's Odyssey. My only real criticism is the scene where the cow is struck and killed by the car. It was totally unnecessary for it to be portrayed so graphically.

I'm not a huge fan of George Clooney nor the Coen Brothers, but this movie was awesome! Clooney's "chicken dance" during the concert sequence was hysterical!

This movie is based on the epic poem called The Odyssey by Homer. The main character is named Ulysses and his wife name is Penny. Ulysses and his two friends escaped from prison. The fine is fine, but I really liked the movie soundtrack. The soundtrack starts the movie with a song called The Big Rock Candy Mountain. It is a catchy music tune that tells stories of having a cigarette tree and a chicken that lays soft boiled eggs.******************************
The next great song I think is dubbed because Clooney is singing a song called A Man of Constant Sorrow with a guitarist accompanying him. In the movie, Clooney and his buddies call their music group, the Soggy Bottom Boys. I think it is because they get baptized in the river and they end up with soggy and wet clothes.************************************
There are some similarities to the epic poem called The Odyssey. For example, the crooked Bible salesman has one eye just like the Cyclops in the Odyssey. There are three enchanting women who bewitch the main characters just like the sirens call Odysseus in the Odyssey.

A great movie all around, but make sure to watch the extras as this was the first digitalised film. Shot in June and July in a lush green setting they change the overall colour to imply the feeling of the depression era with browns and dusty yellows. Which works perfectly. Truly genius! Then with one of the best actors, Charles Edward Durning who once again dances (remember the chicken ranch), you can't go wrong with this movie.

"Do. Not. Seek. The Trea-sure." unless the treasure you seek is this movie, of course. It is one of my favorite films by the Coen brothers. The music is perfect, the cast is great and there are many very funny lines. It was adapted from the epic poem "The Odyssey" by Homer. If you like movies with a soundtrack similar to this one, I recommend both Songcatcher and The Winding Stream, which is a documentary about the Carter family.

Everett: Well ain't this place a geographical oddity! Two weeks from everywhere! Forget it! [slams money on the counter] I'll have a dozen hair nets. ---

Pete: I've always wondered, what's the devil look like?
Ulysses Everett McGill: Well, there are all manner of lesser imps and demons, Pete, but the great Satan hisself is red and scaly with a bifurcated tail, and he carries a hay fork.
Tommy Johnson: Oh, no. No, sir. He's white, as white as you folks, with empty eyes and a big hollow voice. He likes to travel around with a mean old hound. That's right.

Loosely based on Homer's 'Odyssey' the movie deals with the grotesque adventures of Everett Ulysses McGill and his companions Delmar and Pete in 1930s Mississippi. Sprung from a chain gang and trying to reach Everetts home to recover the buried loot of a bank heist they are confronted by a series of strange characters. Among them sirens, a cyclops, bank robber George 'Babyface' Nelson (very annoyed by that nickname), a campaigning Governor, his opponent, a KKK lynch mob, and a blind prophet, who warns the trio that "the treasure you seek shall not be the treasure you find."
