Moon at Nine by Deborah Ellis is an impactful book that takes place in 1988. This book is about two fifteen-year-old girls, Farrin and Sadira, who fall in love with each other in Iran, where being homosexual results in execution. Farrin, who already holds the secret of her mother's illegal worship towards the Shah, can't take anymore secrets and doesn't hide her love for Sadira. Even though they understand the consequences of being gay in a place that is against the LGBTQ community, Farrin and Sadira openly love each other.
This book is an incredible story that shows the merciless government of Iran when it comes to executing gay people, and also shows how people of the LGBTQ community fight for what is right and love the ones they want to love.
I would rate this book a 5/5 stars.
I recommend this book to readers ages 13 and up.
