What would you do if you unexpectedly started changing into a cat on your way home from the grocery store? That's what happens to the main character at the beginning of this book, and it only gets more exciting from there on out. This book is an intelligent blend of sci fi, fantasy, and chick lit, which will appeal to a wide range of readers. The story is just as beautiful as the book's cover art. This is the second Sharon Shinn book I've read, and I have a feeling that it won't be the last.

Shinn writes beautifully. Her novels, like this one, usually deal with human emotional bonds and poignant relationships.
There are no fireworks storyline here (except the climax), but the shape-shifting culture is fascinating.

Meh. I love Sharon Shinn but this series just isn't doing it for me, and this one least of all. Her writing is good, and her emotions are well expressed, but the story just isn't capturing my interest. Perhaps it's the absence of the fabulous world-building that so distinguishes her pure fantasy novels.
