Like most teenage girls, Minnie Goetze is longing for love, acceptance and a sense of purpose in the world. Minnie begins a complex love affair with her mother's boyfriend, the handsomest man in the world, Monroe Rutherford. What follows is a sharp, funny and provocative account of one girl's sexual and artistic awakening, without judgment.

Wish I read the comments before checking out. Maybe watched 10 minutes before turning it off. Disturbing language and content. Ugh.

Disturbing movie, disturbing that some find it a great movie!

Disgusting and creepy. Also, her fantasies seem much more of the type that adolescent guys have, not girls.

Excellent movie but sad. Especially sad because a very young 15 year old teenage girl, Minnie, grows up fast learning the hard way about sex, drugs and what love means or doesn't mean. And she finds out she's not really able to trust anyone and feels so alone. I can really feel Her pain. Unfortunately her absent mother who is too busy being a party girl and a friend lets her immature, irresponsible boyfriend take her daughter out. And things escalate sextual and Minnie starts to feel she's in love with him. Unfortunately the boyfriend who acts more like a teen instead of an adult lets these sexual escapades continue. It's a coming of age for a young girl who learns too much too fast and had no good role models to guide her. It's an eye opener, I have a 12 yr old 👧 & 14 yr 👦. And these are important times to let them know about many issues

Watched this movie to see Alexander Skarsgard, and he was looking fabulous. The movie graphically depicts the sexual awaking of a teenage girl. Her mother is a pretty immature woman, who is raising her daughters while indulging in wild parties, drugs, drinking. The daughter begins an affair with her mother's boyfriend Monroe. Her drug use, and sexual experimenting lead her to some poor choices, flunking school, almost prostituting herself for drugs, running away from home. Good acting, realistic time period. Amazing she survived to write graphic novels.

Questionable quality of film-making. Content was disturbing and I found myself fast-forwarding through half the film. Graphic and inappropriate.

Wow, this film really made a great ice-breaker for broaching this topic with my suddenly feral step-daughter... Heh-heh, JUST KIDDING! Seriously, Bel Powley is fantastic and fascinating in the lead role in this frank and funny satire.

The Diary of a Teenage Girl is one of the best films about showing what it's like to be an adolescent girl. This film was so beautifully made. Almost any female can identify with Minnie. I can watch this over and over. The story is so unique, and you are drawn right in from the start.

it was great to see a female coming of age story but important to remember that this story of sexual awakening takes place in the 1970's.

for a good modern day story of a girl's sexual awakening watch the Norwegian film Turn Me On, Dammit.

Stellar performances. This flick certainly puts the gross in engrossing. But if you know anyone, who has confused sex for love, then one might appreciate the key message; That your past does not define you, and that it is essential to value yourself more importantly, than searching for validation from sources outside yourself.
