The Nutcracker
Book - 2016
"For the first time, this beloved holiday story is told based on George Balanchine's quintessential production. The storyline mimics the choreography of the famous ballet and the illustrations are inspired by the backdrops and scenery from the actual New York City Ballet production"--

Add a CommentThis story Jumped around a lot; I did like the illustrations. But I'm tired of the same old sex role stereotypes. I guess I shouldn't have expected something else. I hope someone reworks this and many other tales in the future; I'm sure it's do-able. Give the handsome prince and the diminutive princess some new roles and descriptors. My 3 year old grandchildren are already grabbing onto these stereotypes. The grand-daughter stated that only boys were fire"men" and police"men"....so I had to show her women in action.
With so many retellings of the story I must say I enjoyed this one. It was more classic, imaginative, and had amazing illustrations along the way. Pictures well balanced with words. Wonderful to read through the holiday season.
