And, what would this much-celebrated time of the year be without at least one viewing of Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer? (whose story I'm sure we all know)

In a nutshell - This 1964, stop-motion production certainly had its good points, as well as its not-so-good points.

But, if you can forgive this kiddies' film for things like its dated, non-CGI effects and some truly strange aspects of its storyline, then you're sure to be entertained by the overall cuteness that prevails.

Containing nine songs (written by Johnny Marks), this 55-minute TV Special is notable for being the longest running Christmas Special in the entire history of television. It also features the recognizable voice-talents of Burl Ives (as Sam, the Snowman)..... (*Watch music video-clip*)

So - As the story goes....

Sam, the snowman (as our narrator), tells us the gripping tale of a young red-nosed reindeer who, after being ousted from the reindeer games (because of his beaming red honker), teams up with Hermey, the little elf who wants to be a dentist, and Yukon Cornelius, the old prospector.

Together this happy trio runs into the Abominable Snowman and, from there, they soon find a whole island of misfit toys.

Rudolph vows to see if he can get Santa to help the toys, and, with that, he returns to the North Pole on Christmas Eve. But Santa's sleigh is fogged in. And then when Santa takes a look at Rudolph (and his red nose), he gets a very bright idea... Wink. Wink.... And the rest is Xmas story-telling history.... (*Watch video-clip*)

These magical characters will be forever treasured, and the message of, "It's okay to be different but don't forget to use your talents to help someone else," is still very applicable today. The little characters are specially designed with more character than modern cartoons; also, the voice talents used were marvelously chosen. This is a film all children should be acquainted with, and "kids" from age 1-92 can enjoy this Christmas classic no matter how many times it has been seen before.

Disappointed that there weren't any extras included with the 2010 Blu-Ray disc.

This kids classic still holds up in the era of computer generated animation. Where else will you find a character that aspires to dentistry?

Even though I have been watching this movie for over 30 years, it never gets old. A real holiday classic!
