"Xcor, leader of the Band of Bastards, convicted of treason against the Blind King, is facing a brutal interrogation and torturous death at the hands of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Yet after a life marked by cruelty and evil deeds, he accepts his soldier's fate, his sole regret the loss of a sacred female who was never his: the Chosen Layla. Layla alone knows the truth that will save Xcor's life. But revealing his sacrifice and his hidden heritage will expose them both and destroy everything Layla holds dear--even her role of mother to her precious young. Torn between love and loyalty, she must summon the courage to stand up against the only family she has for the only man she will ever love. Yet even if Xcor is somehow granted a reprieve, he and Layla would have to confront a graver challenge: bridging the chasm that divides their worlds without paving the way for a future of even greater war, desolation, and death. As a dangerous old enemy returns to Caldwell, and the identity of a new deity is revealed, nothing is certain or safe in the world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, not even true love. or destinies that have long seemed set in stone."--

This was the best book from this series that I have read in a long time. Lots of intense conflict between characters and deep emotions. I was totally hooked into the story.

For the most part I enjoyed book 15. Wow, have I actually read 15 books in a series? Yes, weird. I loved the story of Xcor and Layla. I was thrilled with Tohr finding out about his brother. And I LOVE Lassiter. Everything was going great for me (despite some spelling mistakes, grammar mistakes, and two instances where the action got terribly wrong-- did someone forget to edit the first quarter of this book? For reals?!) except the ending with Vishous. Oh my goodness. First we have to make him bored with Jane? And then J.R. Ward has to lay down hints that Vishous did something to the human (but secretly vampire though she don't know it) journalist that is trying to uncover the existence of vampires-- and wouldn't Vishous figure out she was a vampire too? All I can say is that the ending went a little off the rails for me. So in the meantime, I guess I will read the legacy ones.

Another very good book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. The relationship between Xcor and Layla is revealed and tempers are flying. Quinn wants Layla to have no rights to their children and wants her kicked out of the mansion. There is also some kind of army being made that no one is aware of. But I am sure we will find out more in the next book in this series. I don't want to give anything away, but if you have been following this series, then you have to read this book. You will enjoy it.
