Can we (and should we) salvage Richard Wagner's spectacular music from its embrace by Adolf Hitler? In Wagner & Me, English actor and raconteur Stephen Fry attempts to answer this question while exploring his own passion for history's most controversial composer. Fascinating look at the life and influence of 19th century composer Richard Wagner. Actor Stephen Fry explores the reasons for why he loves the composer's work so much, following in his footsteps across parts of Europe, all the while trying to seperate the powerful, majestic music from the man. Wagner himself was an anti-Semite, whose work had strong influences on Hitler, and that centeral dilemma still resonates to this day. Fry is a likeable host, taking us backstage at various venues, giving us a look at places we might not otherwise see, and his enthusiasm for the subject shines through, as does his personal struggle with the darker side of things, particularly at what's left of the Nazi rally site in Nuremburg.
