I was hooked when the movie opened with an ode to John Cage’s 1952 avant-garde composition 4'33.
Silence, in the sound of waves, wind, crickets, meditation, a Japanese Tea Ceremony is juxtaposed with harsh sounds in Mumbai, NYC, Tokyo, etc. and their impact on our lives. The film includes thoughtful interviews with Pico Iyer, Steve Orfield and George Prochnik to name a few. In Pursuit of Silence is a celebration of silence and inspires us to experience silence in the wonders of our world.
Could that be a shot of kite flying at Gas Works Park just a few minutes in?
A very good look at how noisy our everyday environment is, and the negative side effects. Plus, the wonderful quality of silence. I had just read an article about how songbirds suffer from PTSD because in many cases their habitat is too noisy for them to hear each other calling.
interesting doc - silence is beneficial but difficult to find.
