I am a big fan of the Arkady Renko novels, and here Smith produces another anti-hero, Harry Niles. What I liked was the time when it was set, right beore the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour, and the descriptions of Tokoyo and Japanese life.
I found this novel to be even more enjoyable than the Renko novels because it is more believable, Niles has fewer close calls than Renko.
I had to return the audiobook in before I was done, so I finished with the actual book, and found that I liked the audiobook better because it featured accents. Very good story, bordering on great.
