The opening sequence... an extended version in deleted scenes:
The year is 517 A.D., known as the Dark Ages and for fzcking good reason. An endless war between the armies of man and the creatures of darkness has raged across Britain. And in retribution for man's injustices to creatures, the immortal witch Vivienne Nimue had spread her deadly plague threatening to wipe mankind off the face of the Earth. And so at Pendle Hill, beneath an ancient oak tree, King Arthur... Yes, that King Arthur, and his powerful wizard Merlin, were forced to surrender to Nimue, the Queen of Blood.

Destiny always has a way of bringing things full circle.
-Destiny. Stupid word for "coincidence."

Nazi hunter the Lobster Johnson from Bureau for Paranormal: ... As for the rest of you goose-stepping bastards, beware of my claw for I have come to inflict justice on all of you.
You know, maybe if humans weren't so keen on killing witches and demons and such, the witches and demons and such wouldn't be so keen on killing humans.
-That's a false equivalence and you know it.
There's gotta be another way. The answer to every threat we face cannot be annihilation. There's gotta be a world where monsters don't have to hide
in the shadows, where they don't have to live in fear. Where monsters...

People believe that Arthur's lineage died with him, but it's not true. The bloodline continued when Arthur had a daughter and that daughter had a daughter, and so on. Ending with Sarah Bethany Hughes. She used to fly to the Sabbath on the back of a demon in the shape of a goat. And on Walpurgis Night, 1574, she married that demon. That very night she was taken down to hell, where she delivered a son, Anung un Rama.
-That last part, I've heard that before. What is that?
It's you... Anung un Rama. Destroyer of all things. The title you were given on the day you were born.

Add a CommentDark comedy reminded me of Monty Phyton with Holy Grail kind of joke. Of course included England’s most beloved legend of King Arthur and his excalibur. The CGI was good. Overall, surprisingly despite its box office bomb, not bad at all.
I love David Harbour but he just can't compare to Ron Perlman in the original two movies.
it's ok kinda bore with this movie
A lot of people didn’t like this flick but I enjoyed it. If you take it for what it is and don’t try comparing you’ll enjoy it too!
Pointless Reboot. Action was over the top and spectacular, however. This is mostly an origin story, but the origin story in the original film was shorter and was fine.
It tried to setup a sequel to a movie that will never happen as well. It seemed like this movie was just made so the production studio could keep the rights to the Hellboy IP, and not an actual attempt at making a good movie.
This was an ok remake. I much preferred the original with Ron Perlman because of the back story being in the timeline appropriately and not as some half done back flash. The character of father was rather poorly treated in this version as well but entertaining in a pinch. Now, back to the library for the one I wanted.
I'm not entirely sure what to make of this film version of Hellboy.
The previous 2 films IMO were good (even though they were the same basic story line) and embodied the character I'm familiar with from the graphic novels.
This seemed to be the Hellboy where you've taken the dare to lick an armpit or an ashtray -- it was the character and situations he get into, but overall Hellboy on its worst day. Also, Hellboy looks like a meth addict and swears too much.
I think this film detracted to the character, not added to it. Although I'm glad to have seen it because I like the character, but I don't think I'll bother to see this episode again :-/
This was terrible! It was David Harbor yelling in every scene, and beyond that, the movie was too long and boring.
WOW! all these bad reviews! 73 copies??? Someone at SPL is throwing our tax dollars around like it's someone elses money they're spending! Hey pal how do you decide the Library needs 73 copies of a DVD everyone hates?
Just saw the original and gave a good review. It is available from SPL.
If this hunk of junk is your only Hellboy film then put a hold on the Ron Pearlman version fast(there are only 5 copies) and see that Hellboy can be better than this.
Not recommended.
