On the eve of a top secret space mission, Captain Calli Chase detects a tripped alarm in the tunnels deep below a NASA research centre. A looming blizzard and government shutdown could provide the perfect cover for sabotage, with deadly consequences. As it turns out, the danger is worse than she thought. If a book hasn’t grabbed me in first few pages I know it never will. However because I enjoyed Kay Scarpetta so much I gave this book a read until chapter 3.
Nope. Ms Cornwall has produced a stinker. Very disappointed.
Accidentally gave this too many stars!
Would give it ONE

I read this book, maybe too quickly, but I was confused quite a bit of the time throughout the book. When it ended, I still felt as if things must have happened that I just didn't grasp. The main proponent, Calli, had a twin sister (Carme, pronounced Karma according to the book), who seemed to be a large part of the storyline, but what exactly happened to her is still unknown to me as the book ended. There was a lot of extraneous information in the book, but it didn't help any.

Just finished this exciting novel about space exploration and life in space. Patricia Cornwell's new heroine Capt. Call Chase is an exciting new character and I hope she will write a new novel with Capt. Chase soon. I was always fascinated by Cornwall's SCARPETA coroner novels and this new intelligent, inquisitive "space-based" female character is fully fleshed out, inquisitive, intelligent and a go-getter and doer of the first order.

You will learn a great deal about our current USA space program and astronauts already housed in orbital satellites, as well as the great work of our men and women who work at
the Space Center and the difficult and hard work everyone performs to keep our astronauts safe in space.

The pace was fast, the story line riveting and I could not put the book down in my eagerness to see how it ended. Hope Cornwell writes another Capt. Chase book soon.
