A mediocre sequal to Silence of the Lambs sans Jodie Foster. Still, it's nice to see Hannibal Lecter in his natural habitat, not just in a glass cage. The Hans Zimmer score, especially "Vide cor Meum," is beautiful to the point of almost being too good for the movie it's in.

We really liked it found it to be a good squeal to the silence of the Lambs.

Was a meh sequel to Silence of the Lambs. No Jodie Foster was a bummer.

This is a 2001 American crime thriller directed by Ridley Scott, adapted from the novel of the same name by Thomas Harris.
It is the sequel to the 1991 Academy Award-winning film "The Silence of the Lambs."
Hannibal Lecter, the iconic serial killer, returns.
Julianne Moore plays as FBI agent Clarice Starling---the role first held by Jodie Foster.
When the novel was published in 1999, The Silence of the Lambs director Jonathan Demme, screenwriter Ted Tally, and actress Jodie Foster all declined to be involved in its film adaptation.
I understand the reason because, compared to "The Silence of the Lambs", this film lacks elegance, suspense and tension.
The story line as well as the depiction of the gluesome scenes are kinda disgusting and of low quality.
And the last several scenes are nonsensical.

I didn't think it was a bad movie, but I found it odd, they seemed to be making Hannibal out to be a good guy.
The dinner scene near the end is a bit gross, be warned.

A very good thriller.

The direct sequel to Silence of the Lambs just feel as flat as anything. The sad thing is that as a stand alone movie it would probably have been more impressive, but the known universe had basically seen SOTL and it was pretty much a let down no matter who you talk to. The movie looks good and the acting is solid. There is plenty of gore and suspense, but something is just missing here. They try to make Lecter less of a villian and impart some sort of emotions to him, which flops as well. Don't mess with an icon people. Watched as the 3rd movie, with Red Dragon and SOTL watched first, it comes across even worse.

Really disappointing. Found that this film dragged on and was at times just too weird.

Seriously lacking the intelligence, restraint, and sense of reality of its precursor, the 5-top-Oscar-winning The Silence of the Lambs--an impossible act to follow. Provided you can stomach its gruesome violence, this film is still worth watching for its morbidly fascinating performances by Ray Liotta and Gary Oldman as over-the-top villains.

Hannibal Lecter: People don't always tell you what they are thinking. They just see to it that you don't advance in life.
