Very much worth reading. Especially noteworthy is that the author refrains from the usual use of invective when referring to Germany and Germans - with some exceptions and which mars much of WW1 and WW2 allied history writing. Interesting the use of such invectives by Allied commanders being cited. Hastings, especially mentions that the German soldier was not an automaton, as usually depicted in allied "histories" of both world wars, but was trained to take the initiative and act flexibly, almost diametrically opposed to the popular caricature and to the Allied situation and the key to his effeciveness.. All in all, refreshingly honest and different from the usual Allied "histories".
