It's good that Howie succeeded despite his limiting conditions, but he is more of a prankster than someone with a great sense of humor. Making one's friends and collegues into objects of ridicule does not translate into humor.
While he may appeal to a certain class of society, I find him more deplorable than funny.

First, I wish there was a rate this book as if it were TWO books. I would split the book in half. Half of the book, I REALLY enjoyed. I found it funny, poignant, at times heart wrenching. The other half, I did not care for so much (I have found some of Howie Mandel's humor funny, but I must admit I would not have been amused by some of his "shtick" that was part of his early acts - but some would say that is just a matter of personal taste. I will admit that.

However, my main reason for reading his book was a YouTube video where he discussed his OCD behaviors. I had no idea; nor was I aware he was a germaphobe. I had seen something to the effect that he did not like practical jokes, which I find interesting since he has pulled his fair share in his youth.

But I would recommend this book if you are looking for someone else who struggles as well with mental health issues, there are many of us out here; Mr. Mandel is right: the message needs to be out: we are not alone and it need not be the end of the world. Thank you Mr. Mandel.

The life story was interesting, but the writing was awful. Howie makes no effort to have reader's like him, and this is more of a confessional than a biography.

For fans of him...

Written in a very casual style, like he is talking to his audience. An interesting look at a side of Howie Mandel we don't always see on the big screen.
