Author Wolf shows that there are ten classic steps would-be dictators always take when they wish to close down an open society, and shows how each of those ten steps is underway in the United States today. Our Constitution was built to protect civil liberties and develop a careful system of checks and balances which protect our freedom from tyranny. Wolf argues that the escalation of executive power has eroded these core values and systems, limiting the ability of our Congress to make laws, and of our courts to interpret them--a scenario that our Founding Fathers foresaw and warned against.--From publisher description.

Naomi Wolf's impassioned plea and attack on the modern Corporate Fascist State runs parallel in thinking with Sheldon Wolin's description of the inverted totalitarianism of America today! Some may think she is over the edge, but in reality she is invariably on track and on target. Just look into the personnel rosters of those so-called think tanks today to find former members of some of the recent bloodiest regimes [e.g., Cato Institute and former Pinochet regime people, et cetera, and even Demos has an evangelist for the Chinese Totalitarian Capitalist State]. Ms. Wolf is most sadly correct! [Today, four major investment firms act as majority block owners of the majority of powerful corporations today: BlackRock, Vanguard Group, State Street Corporation and Fidelity or FMR LLC - - so who are their major investors? Sorry, state secret!]
