The problem with Superman is that he's just not very interesting. Even when your try to make him darker or more ambiguous, he's still just kinda dull. This 2006 film is a decent effort, but ultimately disappointing. Bryan Singer, who ushered in the comic book movie age with the first two "X-Men" films, pays homage to the Christopher Reeve films, especially "Superman" and "Superman II," but can't really bring the character into the 21st century. The acting and FX are good, but it's just kinda boring. Brandon Routh (who?) plays Superman/Clark Kent, Kate Bosworth is Lois Lane, Kevin Spacey (overplaying it) is Lex Luther, and Parker Posey and Frank Langella are underused in supporting parts. Clearly they were setting this up as a franchise, but it wouldn't be until "Man of Steel" (2013) that they'd try again and, again, it was a bit disappointing.

Superman should have never gotten started, never mind RETURNED,for another tribal as well as so-called comic book based movie period.Just another movie that also plays the real life Global Warming HOAX card period. The real life Extremist Global Warming HOAX card is one of our real life elite slave masters justifications for DEPOPULATING us in real life worldwide period.Their Global Warming HOAX is FULLY FUNDED BY OUR TAXES THEY FORCE US TO PAY THAT WE DON'T OWE AT ALL AS WELL AS OUR PURCHASES OF THINGS WE DON'T NEED LIKE SPENDING $ TO SEE THIS STINKING MOVIE,BUT YOU DON'T HEAR ME THOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A Superman film that to me anyway, plays out more as a tribute and homage to the first two Christopher Reeve films. I loved Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor as he brings just the right amount of vicious menace to the role, unlike Gene Hackman who played Luthor as a more comedic, sarcastic character. Spacey's Lex comes across as far more sinister. And while I enjoyed Brandon Routh's portrayal of Clark Kent and Superman, he seemed more in my eyes to be channeling Reeve, so his interpretation came off without originality, something I would've preferred. Regardless of it's shortcomings, this is a wonderful movie, and I love the direct homage to past Superman films and glad to hear the tribute to John WIlliams score.

After watching the disappointing "Superman Returns", I could've only wished that "The Man Of Steel" had just stayed away.... Lois Lane was so right when she questioned - "Do we really need Superman?".... Running at an unbearable 2 hours & 25 minutes, this film could've easily had about a good hour's worth of junk edited from it... I think that Kevin Spacey, as Lex Luthor, was nothing but a big suck. He made for an absolutely terrible villain.

This movie has great audio for those who appreciate sound. And of course there's Kevin Spacey's "Lex Luther" and he does a good job portraying the bad guy. But let's get real here!! I love sound and this movie has quite a few. But i would have to say one of my favorite scenes for sound, and there's many, is when Superman returns to earth in the beginning of the movie. The low frequency produced by the impact of him returning to earth is very cool!!! And let's not forget when Lex Luther releases a pulse by placing one of the chrstal's from Superman's fortress in water. The low frequency produced is very cool. YOU SHOULD FEEL THAT!!!.The plane rescue also has very good sound and visuals. My favorite for visuals is Superman being shot at by a High powered Mini-gun. I'm giving this movie 5 stars!!! Excellent sound, very good action, good visuals, and Mr. Spacey as Lex Luther.. Ben&Jerry's NewYork Super Fudge Chunk icecream, chocolate doughnuts with milk.

I really enjoyed this movie. I was a little hesitant to see it as I loved Christopher Reeve so much as Superman, and didn't want to see someone else trying to fill his shoes. But I am glad they made this movie, I highly recommend seeing this movie.

As difficult as it was to see a new actor play the Man of Steel, I thought this movie was brilliant. Spacey was perfect for the role of Luthor. I LOVED the symbology of Superman as savior, but was disappointed in the long-term reprecussions of Superman as an unwed father.

Such a good try but, ultimately, it was also a total failure. The plane rescue scene gave me the geek chills but that was the only time I thought the movie engaged me in the slightest.

Lex Luthor: Kitty, what did my father used to say to me?
Kitty Kowalski: You're losing your hair.
Lex Luthor: Before that.
Kitty Kowalski: Get out.
Lex Luthor: He said: You can print money, manufacture diamonds, and people are a dime a dozen, but they'll always need land. It's the one thing they're not making any more of.
