This book is a difficult for me to rate as I both liked and disliked it. It was fairly easy to read as it is quite whimsical with a touch of spooky. Kids would like it a lot I think. That being said I have two big problems with this big. First of all, the ghost mouse is included in the title, and on the cover art, as well as introduced in the very beginning of the book. So you believe he is a main character and will weigh heavily on the plot. Wrong! You only see him three or four times in the whole book, and he really has nothing to do with anything that goes on in the main story. Kinda disappointed there as the title is very misleading. So do not go into this thinking it is going to be about a ghost mouse. My second problem; there are many references to literary characters from much older stories, mostly classics fairy tales or stories such as Dracula or Frankenstein. If the children reading this are unfamiliar with classic fairy tales, stories, or even movies (such as Mary Poppins) then they will not understand that this section of the book is making an amusing reference to something. These are quite high brow jokes for such a low level reader. They seem a little out of place. I do not think that it would take any of the enjoyment away from reading this book, but it does add more if they can be understood. This book is middle of the road for me. Not exactly gripping by any means, but it is enjoyable and a quick read.
