No sane person could believe that Charles Bronson, the UK's most violent prisoner, should be freed; not from this film loosely based on his life, and certainly not from any knowledge of his true story. But believe it or not, this movie prompted an amnesty appeal for its subject in 2013. Perhaps its supporters don't know that Bronson doesn't resemble star Tom Hardy, but another Charlie -- Manson. As a film, though, Bronson is first rate. I wish Refn's current films had its snappy pace, but don't go in expecting a typical dudes in prison docudrama. Many of the episodes that might strike you as surreal fantasy did in fact occur.
