The novel To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han wasn't as good as I thought it would be. Lara Jean has had a crush on five boys in her life and has written love letters to each of them. One day, she finds out those letters have been sent out to her five past crushes and has to deal with the consequences. These crushes include the boy from summer camp, her first kiss, and Josh, her sister's ex-boyfriend. I didn't really enjoy this book. I didn’t like Lara Jean because she was naïve, immature, silly, spoiled and childish. I understand that teenage girls tend to have an obsession with boys (or girls); however, she was very whiny and uninteresting to the point where it was hard to sympathize with her. There is no character growth from the beginning to the end of the novel. In addition, the plot was predictable and not very exciting. I was not really interested in reading the whole book, but I eventually got through it. Rating: 1 star @LavishReads of the Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board I would rate To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han 4.5/5 stars. This book revolves around a girl named Lara Jean, whose secret love letters were found and sent out. I really enjoyed how Jenny Han included the letters in the story. Her style of writing is amazing, and she describes Lara Jean and all other characters with perfect detail. I appreciated how Lara Jean shows that you don’t need to be the most popular girl in school to have lots of friends. She also shows that family is always top priority, and that high school can be a very hard time. She is the perfect role model for tweens and teens. I highly recommend this book for everybody, especially fans of Jenny Han’s “The Summer I Turned Pretty” Series. @Dolphin05 of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library Reading the book To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han was a similar experience to watching paint dry. This present day romantic novel was so stereo-typical to every other romance novel, I could always predict what was going to happen next. I originally started reading this book because I had fallen in love with the movie version and wanted to compare their differences and similarities. In the beginning of the plot I was hooked on the story and couldn’t put it down. Near chapter ten sitting down to read this book felt like a chore. The story is so simple and predictable that I knew what was going to happen in the end. In my opinion plot twists and loops are what interest a reader and there was not one of those moments in this book. The movie version is drastically different than the book as it is a completely different story near the climax. I was excited to experience the roller coaster of emotions the movie made me feel but the book was just plain boring. However despite all this I did like how the end of the story was unresolved and left the audience on a cliff hanger. 3/10 would not recommend. @Bookles of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board
