This was another title I read for a book group, which was a quick and pleasant read. In How to Fail at Flirting we meet Naya, an overachieving college professor on the brink of tenure, whose friends push her to explore the dating world again through a dating to-do list. As you would assume there are awkward fumbles and some cheesy jokes, but Williams also covers topics of racial identity and abusive relationships which I think help pack the punch of this novel. The beginning was a bit more fluff than I enjoy, but the last 100 pages were wonderful. This book is advertised as a rom-com, but I would classify it as more of a rom with some corny jokes. The steam level is medium to high on this one, so if you try to avoid that, make note. Otherwise, I really enjoyed these characters and the challenges they were facing. I think Williams takes a chance writing about some of these topics in her debut novel, so I applaud her for that. 4/5 stars.
