UK, Australian, New Zealander, African, and Maori personnel made this neo-Western. Previously, Hollywood Westerns basically had two themes: 1) Good White Guys kill off bad Indians (Indians played by white guys with red makeup) and 2) Good white sheriffs combat bad white guys. In this new film of 18th century Coloradan lawless territories (filmed in the beautiful wilderness areas of New Zealand) nearly all of the white guys are lawless persons, cheating, menacing and killing competitors. African-Americans (usually totally absent in Hollywood Westerns) are played by African actors and American Indians are played by Maoris. I get the feeling that this new western is more realistic than the older Hollywood westerns we are so used to seeing.
