I'm a slow, fitful reader most of the time, but I raced through Beware the Wild in two days. Like the eerie swamp that lurks outside of the town of Sticks, LA, the novel sucked me in and wouldn't let me go. It's a Southern Gothic fairy tale, with the Grimm fey woods replaced by a swamp infested with something dark, rich, and strange. The story manages to be both a fast-paced car-ride and a slow, creepy stalk through weird, shadowy territory. It's a strong brew.
